Fashion Update – Trine Eide

Today was our last day of fashion this time around. It was a good, but busy 3 weeks, learnt a LOT. GT (teacher) walked us through both lighting, but maybe more educational, his workflow in post-processing the images. A fair bit I already knew, but he helped fine-tune a few of my steps, especially the color-correction.

Sunday the 17th of January I had my last fashion shoot (giving me a lot of time to do the editing, allowing me not to stress). The shoot was set at Hotell Britannia in town, Trine Eide turned up punctual as always, ready for the task of model. Bjørn Christiansen brought along some extra camera and lighting gear and was great help as assistant, and so was Mathilde Nordstrand, having 2 extra pair of hands proved very helpful for the shots taken in the stairs as the stands wouldnt stand by themselves. Tina Larsen did a fantastic job as always on hair/makeup and styling. So a big thanks to all of you!

Below are some of the results from the shoot. I would have liked to have been able to use the brighter room next door, but due to the hotel staff having a birthday celebration that part was off-limits (maybe next time).

Flash on Location

Flash… a-ah…Savior of the Universe…Flash…He save everyone of us

Tomorrow our project on using flash on location is due. The assignment was pretty open, it needed to be taken in horizontal format, and have a person or a group of people in it. As inspiration, the teacher showed us a whole bunch of David Lachapelle photos. I immediately decided I wanted something pink in my photo, and an old library-esque location. So I asked around to see if anyone knew of a good place, and through a few people I found out that  Tone Constanze Ek Andreassen had used a location that matched my description perfectly, and she was lovely enough to let me know where it was. So I took the trip to Bybroen Antikvariat and asked the owner for permission, which I got no problem.

I then went out and bought lots of pink apparel, booked a stylist (Alexandra), and got hold of two models (Marie Folstad who I used for Classic Portrait, and Marte Øverby Tennøe who Bjørn Tore used for his Classic Portrait). I also got Bjørn Tore along as an assistant, and chauffeur which turned out to be very helpful as I left 2 of the flashes at home… :S

We left school early to get hold of some “geek glasses” from Sudi, and to get set up at the location. Models arrived at 16:15, got their hair and makeup done and got them dressed for the part.

In the image, I used an SB-900 flash at about 45/45 to camera right, through a softbox, an SB-800 on camera as master as well as a very weak ceiling bounce, and to camera left another SB-900 with no modifier as an edgelight/hairlight, shot through the bookshelf thanks to Bjørn Tore holding it in place (there were very steep stairs on the other side). 19:00 we packed up as the shop was closing and we didn’t want to intrude too much on the lovely man that owned the place (though he seemed to be ok with us staying longer).

With a small touch of retouching, less than I would have imagined at first… I got this result, which I am fairly happy with.
