Photoshoot – Charlotte Thorstvedt

Charlotte Thorstvedt is known for her run as VJ on MTV, hosting amongst other things the Europe-wide Euro Top 20. She then went on to being the host on the first season of the Norwegian version of X-factor. She is also a very popular DJ, playing gigs all over Oslo, and other main cities in Norway.

Having gone to the same school as Charlotte, it became a fairly obvious choice to ask her when given the assignment at school to photograph a high-profile person. Am very happy she had the time and I will be posting some of the results here in time.

Charlotte also has a blog which is worth checking out, both to stay up to date with what she is up to, her music, and also for photographic inspiration:

Classic Portraiture

As I mentioned yesterday, Bjørn and myself had a photoshoot at school, with 3 models, 2 stylists, 1 assistant and ourselves. It’s for an assignment we have been given which is to use the medium-format analogue cameras at school to take two classic portraits. In essence that means that the main light is a Rembrandt light, meaning that its 45 degrees off-axis between the camera and the model, and 45 degrees up (as in it points down…).Its also supposed to be either high-key or low-key style to the images.

Today, I developed the film, something that took considerably less time than I thought it would… put the film on the spool in the dark in a matter of a minute max, last time I think I spent a good 10 minutes in there fumbling about. I was nervous as heck while working with the chemicals… not because of the chemicals, I could care less about that, but because if I messed up, the images would be fucked and most of yesterdays work down the drain. But the negatives turned out to be great, a bit of dust/scratches… but great besides that  (and a couple of blown highlights…)

I’ll post the images that I have worked on here as they are readied…still a few to work on…

First model is Marie Folstad, one of the two twins that we had in, the other model is Tone Kvaale Jordal. Also included a behind the scenes shot of Marie having her makeup touched up by the fantastic Tina Larsen from H2 Akademiet.

Enivronmental Project Revisited

On Thursday we had to hand in the photo we wanted to use for the political propaganda, and we were all wondering what the new project would be… apparently there was a reason we were given only “2″ days for the shoot… because the project had two parts. We got a new scenario, “the client is not happy with your image” so we had to go out and either improve on the old one, or take a new idea (as long as it was within the same theme, in my case Climate Change and Environment). I decided to scrap the old idea and go for a new one. Instead of highly saturated colours, I went for high contrast black and white, with very shallow depth of field this time. I had the image in my head, but the image I wanted wasn’t physically possible, unless I started sawing away parts of my flat and some furniture. Instead I reworked it a bit to work with what I had. Here’s the final result, think the message of the photo is clear.

Thanks to Eivind for helping out, with being a model, bringing a bike… and bringing car keys…
